Cloud migration checklist

The key steps to move legacy systems to the cloud safely: assessment, architecture, security, backups, monitoring, and cutover planning.

All resources

Moving to the cloud can improve reliability, scalability, and cost control, but only with a deliberate plan. A rushed migration trades one set of problems for another.

Assess before you move

Start by inventorying what you run today: applications, databases, integrations, and the dependencies between them. Understanding the current state prevents surprises during cutover.

  • Catalog applications, data stores, and integrations
  • Identify compliance and data-residency requirements
  • Estimate traffic, storage, and growth

Design for security and recovery

Security and backups are not afterthoughts. Access control, encryption, and tested recovery plans should be part of the architecture from day one.

Plan the cutover carefully

Decide how you will switch over with minimal disruption — a staged rollout, a parallel run, or a scheduled window. Always have a rollback plan and monitoring in place before you flip the switch.
